Cambodia Denounces Thai Army Commander’s “Provocative” Remarks, Urges International Pressure PHNOM PENH — The Cambodian Ministry of National Defense has denounced Thailand’s 2nd Army Region Commander Boonsin Padklang for announcing plans to seize Ta Krabei Temple and close Tamoan Thom Temple, calling them clear signs of provocation and a premeditated attempt to invade Cambodian territory. “This declaration is irrefutable evidence of provocation and a deliberate and premeditated attempt to invade Cambodian territory,” Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata said in a statement issued on August 10. The statement was issued just a few hours after Thai media reported that Padklang announced plans to seize Ta Krabei Temple and close Tamoan Thom Temple, claiming Thai soldiers had tried four times to enter Ta Krabei but failed.
